How I work
Four steps, from the first conversation to looking after what we've built, and what you can count on along the way.
- 1.
Understand the job
I review what you have and what you need, then recommend a clear way forward.
We start with a conversation about what you need and why. For an existing site or app, I review how it's built, what condition it's in and where it's costing you time. For something new, we define who it's for and what it has to do.
- You get
- A written summary of what I found and what I recommend.
- From you
- Time for a call, and access to anything that already exists.
- 2.
Agree the plan
A fixed quote or a monthly plan, with everything agreed in writing.
I break the work into stages, each with a price and a clear description of the finished result. For ongoing support, you choose a plan and know exactly what's included each month. No work starts until you've approved it.
- You get
- A fixed quote or a support plan, in writing.
- From you
- Sign-off on the quote from the person who makes the decisions.
- 3.
Build and test
You review progress on a private preview. Nothing goes live until it's tested.
I build in small steps and share a private preview you can try on your own phone and computer. You see progress as it happens and can change direction early, when changes cost least. Everything is tested before release, and launches are scheduled for quiet periods.
- You get
- A private preview, regular updates and a planned launch.
- From you
- Feedback on the preview, and content and logins when needed.
- 4.
Look after it
Updates, backups and monitoring once it's live, with a short report every month.
Once it's live, a support plan keeps it updated, backed up and monitored. Fixes and small changes come out of your plan's hours, and larger work is quoted first. Without a plan, I'm available by the hour.
- You get
- A short report every month, in plain English.
- From you
- Nothing, unless you want something changed.
What you can count on
Plain English
You'll always know what I'm doing and why, without having to learn the jargon.
The price, up front
Projects get a fixed quote before work starts. If the job changes, you get a new quote before the extra work does.
Nothing goes live untested
Every change is checked on a private preview and tested before your customers see it.
Built to be looked after
Up-to-date tools and a clear structure, so the next change is quick, whoever makes it.
Yours to keep
Once it's paid for, the code, designs and accounts are yours.
Honest advice
If something isn't worth building, or there's a cheaper way to get it done, I'll say so.
Working together
You work with me directly from start to finish. No account managers, no hand-offs to people you've never met, and no jargon.
Every step ends with something you can see: a written summary after we talk, a quote before any work starts, a preview while it's being built, and a report once it's live.
I'm based in Warwick and work with clients across the UK and Europe, almost always remotely, by email and video call.
Questions
Will I own what you build?
Yes. Once the final invoice is paid, the code, designs and content are yours, and accounts such as your domain and hosting are in your name.
Do you work with agencies?
Yes. I help agencies with overflow work, technical builds and looking after their clients' sites.
Do you work with clients outside the UK?
Yes. I'm based in Warwick and work with clients across the UK and Europe. Almost everything happens remotely, so where you are makes no difference to how we work.
